The government has introduced VISTAR, a new platform aimed at delivering real-time statistical information through advanced technology.
New Delhi — The Union government has unveiled VISTAR, a digital framework designed to replace periodic statistical surveys with continuous, real‑time data collection. The initiative seeks to harness modern information‑technology tools to capture economic, social and demographic indicators as they occur.
Unlike the legacy system that relied on paper‑based questionnaires and delayed reporting, VISTAR will integrate automated data feeds from government databases, satellite imagery and mobile platforms. This shift is expected to reduce latency, improve accuracy and enable policymakers to respond swiftly to emerging trends.
Officials say the real‑time capability will strengthen evidence‑based decision‑making across ministries, from budgeting to social welfare. While the rollout will begin with pilot modules in selected sectors, the long‑term goal is a nationwide, interoperable statistical ecosystem.
