Air quality in Bhopal deteriorated significantly on the morning of Diwali, with the AQI reaching 277, a sharp increase from 208 recorded during the same period last year.
The festive morning in Bhopal was marred by a significant spike in air pollution levels. According to data from the Environment Park, the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 277 on the morning of Diwali. This figure marks a concerning rise compared to the previous year, when the AQI stood at 208 during the same time.
The increase in pollutants has raised alarms among residents and environmental observers. The current levels indicate a substantial deterioration in air quality, making the atmosphere less breathable for the city's population. The data suggests that the baseline pollution levels were already high before the traditional evening festivities began.
Experts and local authorities anticipate that the AQI may rise further as the day progresses. The burning of firecrackers, a customary part of Diwali celebrations, is expected to exacerbate the situation. With the index already above 200, the air quality is classified as poor, posing potential health risks, particularly for those with respiratory conditions.
