The Tamil Nadu government has approved a ₹198 crore honorarium for officials involved in the 2026 Assembly elections, capped at one month's basic pay or ₹45,000.

The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned a total of ₹198 crore as honorarium for government officials and staff members who will be involved in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. The decision was communicated through a Government Order (GO) issued by the Public (Elections) Department.

According to the order, the financial incentive will be calculated as one month’s basic pay for the eligible personnel. However, this amount is subject to a strict cap, meaning no official will receive more than ₹45,000, whichever amount is lower between the basic pay and the fixed limit.

This move aims to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of the state’s legislative polls by compensating the administrative staff who will be deployed for election-related duties. The funds are specifically allocated to cover the honorarium for these temporary election assignments.

The allocation reflects the state administration's preparation for the logistical and administrative requirements of the 2026 Assembly elections, ensuring that the necessary personnel are supported financially during the critical period of the electoral process.
