A video of Taiwan's high‑speed bullet train circulated online claiming to show a Mumbai rail service, but officials confirmed the footage is from Taiwan.
An online post shared a video of a high‑speed bullet train in Taiwan, claiming it was a Mumbai rail service.
The clip shows the train speeding through a scenic route with modern infrastructure. The video was rapidly shared across social media, leading many viewers to assume it depicted India’s expanding rail network.
However, the footage is from Taiwan’s high‑speed rail system, which began operations in 2021. Indian rail authorities have clarified that the video is unrelated to any Mumbai train service.
The Indian Railway Ministry released a statement on its official Twitter account, stating that the video is not from Mumbai and is a misrepresentation. The Ministry urged users to verify sources before sharing. The video was originally posted by a Taiwanese travel channel.
This incident highlights the spread of misinformation online, especially when high‑speed trains are a popular subject. Authorities in both countries have called for greater scrutiny of viral content.
