Union minister Shashi Tharoor criticised the Delhi administration for the worsening pollution crisis, saying he feels relief breathing the cleaner air in Kerala.

Union Minister Shashi Tharoor used a recent public appearance to highlight the stark contrast between Delhi's deteriorating air quality and the comparatively pristine atmosphere of Kerala. He warned that the capital's persistent smog poses serious health risks and called on the Delhi administration to take more decisive action to curb emissions.

Tharoor noted that he personally experiences a noticeable difference when he visits Kerala, describing the state's air as "refreshing" and "a welcome relief" compared to the choking haze that often blankets Delhi. He urged the central government to support Delhi with additional resources and stricter enforcement of pollution control measures.

The remarks come as Delhi continues to grapple with record‑high particulate matter levels, prompting public health advisories and school closures in recent weeks. While the minister praised Kerala's environmental policies, he stopped short of naming specific initiatives, focusing instead on the urgent need for coordinated action at the national level.

Delhi officials have not yet responded to Tharoor's comments, but the criticism adds to growing political pressure on the state government to address the air‑quality emergency before the upcoming winter season.
