Rajasthan authorities plan to strengthen tiger numbers in Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve by bringing a tiger from Maharashtra and enhancing food resources.
Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve, situated in the Aravalli range of Rajasthan, is home to a small but vital tiger population that faces challenges from limited prey and habitat fragmentation. In a move to bolster the reserve’s conservation efforts, the state wildlife department has announced plans to introduce a new tiger from Maharashtra next month. The transfer will be carried out under strict veterinary protocols to ensure the animal’s health and successful acclimatization. Additionally, authorities are set to increase prey density by restoring grasslands and improving water availability, aiming to create a more self-sustaining ecosystem for the tigers. While a separate proposal to bring 200 cheetahs from Delhi has also been forwarded for approval, the immediate focus remains on expanding the tiger population in Mukundara Hills.
