Punjab authorities report over 3,000 stubble burning incidents, contributing to severe air pollution that has triggered an air emergency in Delhi.
Punjab authorities have logged more than 3,000 stubble burning incidents in the last month, a figure that underscores the scale of the problem.
The practice, common among farmers after the harvest, releases large volumes of smoke and particulate matter into the atmosphere.
The resulting haze has drifted northward, worsening Delhi’s air quality and prompting the city to declare an air emergency.
Officials are urging farmers to adopt alternative disposal methods and have increased monitoring of stubble burning sites.
