Pakistan allegedly used a drone to transport pistols and cartridges into Punjab, with the weapons recovered from fields in Faridpur and a case filed in Mohali.
Police in Punjab uncovered a stash of pistols and cartridges in the fields of Rana Panj Garay in Faridpur, after intelligence indicated a drone‑based smuggling attempt from Pakistan. The weapons were recovered on a drone‑drop site and were found to be in good condition, suggesting a recent delivery.
The discovery followed a series of alerts that a drone had landed in the area, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and the Punjab Police. Investigators confirmed that the firearms were of Pakistani origin and were likely part of a larger smuggling network.
A formal case has been registered in the Mohali court, where authorities are probing the source of the drone, the logistics of the smuggling route, and any possible local collaborators. The case is expected to involve both police and intelligence agencies.
This incident comes after several previous attempts of cross‑border weapon smuggling into Punjab, raising concerns about the effectiveness of border surveillance and the need for enhanced counter‑smuggling measures.
