The Union Oil Ministry has stated that E20 petrol supplied by public sector undertakings meets all prescribed quality standards, directly rejecting allegations raised by the Karnataka government.
The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a clarification addressing concerns raised by the Karnataka government regarding the quality of ethanol-blended fuel. The ministry stated that E20 petrol, which contains 20 percent ethanol, supplied by public sector undertakings (PSUs) strictly adheres to the prescribed quality standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
This response comes in the wake of allegations made by the state government, which had questioned the efficacy and quality of the fuel being distributed in the region. The central government's statement aims to put an end to the controversy by affirming that the fuel meets all necessary technical and safety requirements.
The ministry emphasized that the blending program is being implemented in accordance with national guidelines and that the quality of the fuel is monitored to ensure it does not affect vehicle performance or engine longevity. By rejecting the specific charges leveled by Karnataka, the Oil Ministry has sought to maintain public confidence in the E20 initiative.
The E20 mandate is part of India's broader strategy to reduce dependence on crude oil imports and lower carbon emissions in the transport sector. The central government continues to monitor the supply chain to ensure consistency in fuel quality across all states.
