India is reportedly finalising a defence contract worth up to $800 million to supply the Philippines with nearly 60 BrahMos cruise missiles, as Manila seeks to bolster its coastal defence against China.
New Delhi is said to be on the brink of sealing a defence agreement with Manila that could be valued between $700 million and $800 million. The deal would see India supplying the Philippines with close to 60 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, a system that has become a cornerstone of India’s own missile arsenal.
The Philippines has been accelerating its military modernisation programme, focusing on strengthening coastal and maritime capabilities amid rising tensions with China in the South China Sea. Acquiring BrahMos missiles is viewed as a way to enhance deterrence and protect its extensive shoreline.
Philippine officials have communicated a clear intent to procure additional BrahMos systems from India, signalling deepening defence cooperation between the two democracies. While the exact timeline for delivery remains under discussion, the prospective contract underscores India’s growing role as a defence supplier in the Indo‑Pacific region.
