The Indian Meteorological Department warned Bengaluru residents of possible thunderstorms and lightning as the city prepares for a surge in traffic during the Dhanteras shopping rush.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather alert on Tuesday, cautioning residents of Bengaluru about the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning in the coming hours.
The warning comes as the city gears up for the Dhanteras shopping frenzy, which typically sees a sharp rise in traffic and footfall across commercial areas.
IMD officials said that the combination of high humidity and rising temperatures could trigger sudden storm activity, urging motorists and pedestrians to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
Local traffic authorities have already begun to issue advisories, recommending alternate routes and encouraging the use of public transport to ease congestion.
The alert is part of the department’s routine monitoring of weather conditions during major festivals and market days in the region.
