The Hindu festival of Dhanteras is being observed today across India, marking the beginning of the five-day Diwali celebration. The day is traditionally dedicated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari, with a strong emphasis on acquiring new assets, particularly gold and silver, as a symbol of prosperity.
According to traditional almanac calculations, there is an auspicious window available throughout the day for shopping. While the festival is celebrated with fervor from morning to night, specific time slots are considered more favorable for transactions to ensure good fortune for the coming year.
Jewelry stores and gold markets in major cities are expected to see heavy footfall as families rush to purchase ornaments and coins. Buyers are advised to consult local panchang or astrological charts to identify the precise 'Shubh Muhurat' that aligns with their personal zodiac signs, although general auspicious hours are widely shared for the public.
The tradition of buying gold on Dhanteras is believed to bring wealth and health to the household. As the day progresses, many devotees will also perform Lakshmi Puja, seeking blessings for financial stability and success in their business ventures.
