Delhi's air quality index recorded 369 on Saturday, placing it in the 'Very Poor' category, with forecasts predicting a drop to 'Severe' levels on Diwali.

Air pollution levels in the national capital reached concerning heights on Saturday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 369. This figure places the city's air quality in the 'Very Poor' category, significantly impacting visibility and respiratory health across the region.

The entire city was shrouded in thick smog on the eve of Diwali, creating hazardous conditions for residents. The deteriorating air quality has raised alarms among health experts and environmental agencies monitoring the situation in the capital.

Forecasts indicate that the situation is likely to worsen further over the weekend. Authorities predict that the AQI may shift into the 'Severe' category by Sunday, which is the day of Diwali, as traditional practices involving firecrackers and diyas are expected to add to the existing pollution load.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as wearing N95 masks and limiting outdoor activities, especially vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. The sharp rise in pollution ahead of the festival highlights the recurring challenge of managing air quality in Delhi during this period.
