During Deepotsav‑2026, more than 3.6 million oil lamps were lit across 56 ghats in Ayodhya, turning the holy city into a sea of light and drawing huge crowds.

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, hosted its annual Deepotsav celebration this year with an unprecedented display of illumination. Organisers arranged for more than three and a half million diyas to be lit simultaneously across the city’s 56 riverfront ghats, creating a continuous ribbon of light along the Sarayu banks.
The massive lighting effort transformed the historic town into a luminous spectacle that attracted thousands of devotees, tourists and local residents. Spectators gathered on the ghats and surrounding streets, capturing the glow on their phones and sharing the images on social media.
Beyond the visual impact, the event underscored the cultural importance of Diwali‑related festivities in Ayodhya, a city revered for its association with Lord Rama. Officials praised the community’s participation and noted that the smooth execution reflected coordinated efforts by municipal bodies and volunteers.
The night concluded with traditional chants and music, reinforcing the spiritual atmosphere that accompanies the festival of lights in the heart of the Ramayana’s legendary setting.
