In Asalpur village near Jaipur, two sweet shops continue to craft traditional sweets using clay ovens and slow wood fire, preserving an age‑old method in a modern era.

Asalpur, a small village in Jaipur district, is home to two sweet shops that have resisted the tide of modern confectionery technology. The vendors, who have been operating for decades, still rely on clay ovens and wood‑burnt heat to produce their signature sweets.

The process begins with fresh milk that is slowly reduced into mawa in the clay oven. The wood fire provides a steady, low temperature that allows the mawa to caramelise gently, a technique that gives the sweets their distinct flavour and texture.

By maintaining this traditional method, the shops preserve a culinary heritage that many younger confectioners have abandoned in favour of electric ovens and mass‑production machinery. Their sweets are sought after by locals and visitors alike, who come to taste the authentic taste of Rajasthan.

The vendors also play a role in sustaining the village economy. They source milk from nearby farms and employ local labour, ensuring that the traditional craft remains a viable livelihood for the community.
