On 4 July, West Bengal witnessed a political showdown as BJP leader Abhishek Banerjee celebrated his birthday with a rally in the state. The event, held in a prominent public space, attracted a sizeable crowd of BJP supporters who delivered speeches highlighting the party’s agenda and the birthday of the senior leader.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC), the ruling party in West Bengal, responded with a counter‑display outside the rally venue. TMC cadres and supporters staged a protest, voicing opposition to the BJP’s activities and asserting their own political narrative.
The clash drew attention from state officials, who called for calm and urged both parties to maintain decorum. Police presence was increased to manage the crowds and prevent any escalation.
Political analysts view the incident as a strategic move by the BJP to strengthen its presence in West Bengal ahead of upcoming elections, while the TMC’s counter‑action underscores its intent to defend its political base.
