A clerk from the Ujjain Administrative District Magistrate’s office was apprehended after allegedly taking a ₹20,000 bribe to promise a favourable decision in a fraudulent Ujjwala scheme.
A clerk in the office of the Ujjain Administrative District Magistrate was arrested on Tuesday after authorities discovered that he had accepted a ₹20,000 bribe from a citizen seeking a favourable decision in a fraudulent Ujjwala scheme. The clerk allegedly promised that the applicant’s case would be processed favourably in exchange for the payment.
The arrest was made following an investigation by the local anti-corruption unit, which received a complaint about the clerk’s conduct. Police seized the money and seized evidence of the alleged transaction.
The Ujjain District Magistrate’s office has stated that it is cooperating fully with the investigation and that no other officials have been implicated at this stage. The case is now being forwarded to the state’s anti-corruption bureau for further action.
Officials have reiterated that the Ujjwala scheme is a government initiative aimed at providing clean cooking fuel to households, and any form of corruption undermines the scheme’s objectives.
