Police in Jaipur uncovered a fraud ring that refueled vehicles using stolen licence plates, enabling the culprits to drive away without paying. Two suspects were detained in Lakshmangarh, Sikar.
The Jaipur police have dismantled a criminal network that siphoned petrol and diesel by fitting stolen vehicle registration plates onto unsuspecting cars. Once the fuel was pumped, the gang would drive off without settling the bill, leaving fuel stations with unpaid losses.
Investigators traced the pattern after several fuel stations reported repeated incidents of vehicles disappearing after refuelling. Surveillance footage and fuel pump logs helped identify the vehicles involved and the counterfeit plates used.
A coordinated raid in Lakshmangarh, a town in Sikar district, led to the arrest of two alleged members of the gang. Both were taken into custody and are being questioned for their role in the scheme.
Police officials said the operation underscores their commitment to curbing fuel fraud, which has been a growing concern across the state. Further inquiries are underway to determine if more individuals were part of the racket.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before a Jaipur court in the coming days, where they will face charges related to theft, fraud and violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.
