The Supreme Court directed NewsClick to file a reply to the Enforcement Directorate's plea contesting the High Court's decision that set aside an ECIR.

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to NewsClick, asking the media outlet to submit its response to a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED's plea seeks to overturn a recent order of the Delhi High Court that quashed an Economic Crime Investigation Report (ECIR) related to the outlet.

In its order, the apex court emphasized the need for both parties to present their arguments promptly, ensuring that the legal process proceeds without undue delay. The High Court had previously ruled that the ECIR, which alleged financial improprieties, lacked sufficient basis and therefore was set aside.

The Enforcement Directorate, which investigates money‑laundering and financial crimes, contended that the High Court's decision undermines its investigative authority. NewsClick, meanwhile, maintains that the ECIR was improperly issued and that the High Court's quashing was justified.

The Supreme Court's direction marks the next procedural step in a case that could have broader implications for media entities and financial crime investigations in India.
