Voting for the second phase of Rajasthan’s panchayat elections commenced, with 21,839 candidates contesting sarpanch seats across 3,626 gram panchayats in 22 districts. Unopposed elections were recorded in 45 gram panchayats.

The Election Commission of India began the second phase of voting for Rajasthan’s rural local-body elections on Tuesday, marking the continuation of a statewide panchayat poll that started earlier this month. Polling stations across 22 districts opened for voters to elect members of gram panchayats, including the pivotal sarpanch posts.

A total of 21,839 candidates have filed nominations for the sarpanch position in 3,626 gram panchayats, reflecting intense competition at the grassroots level. The large candidate pool underscores the importance of the sarpanch role in overseeing development schemes, local governance and community welfare.

In addition to the contested races, the commission reported that 45 gram panchayats witnessed unopposed elections, where a single candidate was declared elected without a vote. Such outcomes are common in remote or sparsely populated villages where fewer individuals step forward for public office.

Election officials have urged voters to exercise their franchise responsibly and have deployed security and monitoring teams to ensure a smooth and transparent process across the state.
