Rahul Gandhi said Punjab needs a leader who truly understands the drug menace and is personally committed, directly targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi publicly accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of being disconnected from the state's escalating drug problem. Speaking at a press briefing, Gandhi asserted that the state requires a leader who can genuinely empathise with the suffering caused by narcotics and who is willing to act decisively.
Gandhi highlighted the prevalence of alcohol and other substances, saying he could even smell alcohol on the minister, to underscore his point that the leadership appears indifferent. He urged voters to consider candidates who demonstrate personal commitment to tackling the crisis rather than mere rhetoric.
The Aam Aadmi Party responded by defending Mann, stating that his government has launched several anti‑drug initiatives and that Gandhi's remarks were politically motivated. The party reiterated its resolve to continue fighting the drug menace in Punjab.
