The Punjab government is establishing 35 special NDPS courts to expedite the disposal of pending drug trafficking cases, following an assessment by the High Court Registrar General.

The Punjab government has taken a decisive step to address the backlog of drug trafficking cases by announcing the establishment of 35 special NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) courts. This initiative aims to streamline the judicial process and ensure faster justice in cases related to narcotics.

The decision follows a detailed assessment conducted by the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Registrar General highlighted the necessity of additional special courts to dispose of old, pending cases within the next five to seven years.

By setting up these dedicated courts, the state administration intends to reduce the burden on existing judicial structures. The move is expected to enhance the efficiency of the legal system in handling sensitive drug-related offenses effectively.

This expansion of the judicial infrastructure underscores the government's commitment to combating the drug menace in the region through robust legal mechanisms.
