Pia Dandiya, an Indian‑origin candidate from Jaipur, won Florida’s 22nd congressional district with 51.89% of the vote, becoming the first woman of Indian descent elected to the U.S. House.

Pia Dandiya, a 34‑year‑old Democrat, secured a historic victory in Florida’s 22nd congressional district during the U.S. mid‑term elections. She received 51.89% of the vote, defeating her Republican opponent and becoming the first woman of Indian descent to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Dandiya, who was born in Jaipur and raised in the United States, campaigned on a platform of economic growth, healthcare reform and educational opportunities. Her campaign emphasized her experience as a small‑business owner and her commitment to community outreach.

The win marks a significant milestone for the Indian‑American community and highlights the growing influence of diverse candidates in American politics. Dandiya’s victory is expected to inspire more people of Indian heritage to pursue public office.

She will take office in January 2025 and is expected to join the House’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, where she can address issues important to both U.S. and Indian interests.

The election result was certified by the Florida Secretary of State, and Dandiya’s campaign team celebrated the historic moment with supporters across the district.
