The Madhya Pradesh High Court's Gwalior bench has directed the state government to provide the benefit of the old pension scheme to approximately 99,000 teachers appointed between 1998 and 2005.
In a significant ruling, the Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has mandated the implementation of the old pension scheme for a substantial group of teachers. The court's order affects approximately 99,000 educators who were appointed to their positions between the years 1998 and 2005.
The High Court has also instructed the state government to facilitate the transfer of funds currently deposited in the National Pension System (NPS) accounts of these teachers to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This decision comes after the court dismissed the state government's arguments against extending the benefit.
The ruling is expected to bring relief to a large number of teachers who have been seeking the security and benefits associated with the traditional pension system.
