Chief Minister Lalduhoma has declared Mizoram's ambition to be recognized as the 'Silk Capital' and 'Winter Capital' of India, aiming to boost tourism and local industries.
At a press conference in Aizawl, Mizoram's Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the state's goal of obtaining the titles of "Silk Capital" and "Winter Capital" of India. The move is part of a broader strategy to promote Mizoram's rich silk heritage and its scenic winter landscapes as key tourism attractions.
Lalduhoma highlighted that Mizoram already produces a significant quantity of handloom silk, and the state has the potential to become a major hub for silk production and trade. By branding itself as the Silk Capital, the government hopes to attract investment in silk mills, training centers, and export facilities.
The winter capital tag aims to showcase the state's pleasant winter climate and natural beauty, encouraging domestic and international tourists to visit during the cooler months. The CM emphasized plans to improve infrastructure, develop hospitality services, and launch marketing campaigns to position Mizoram as a year-round destination.
"By securing these titles, we will create jobs, boost local economies, and put Mizoram on the national tourism map," Lalduhoma said.
The announcement comes as part of Mizoram's ongoing efforts to diversify its economy beyond agriculture and to capitalize on its unique cultural and environmental assets.
