Mizoram Minister Lalrinpuii urges collective action to end child marriage

Mizoram Minister Lalrinpuii has issued a strong call for collective action to eradicate the practice of child marriage within the state. Addressing the issue, the minister highlighted that stopping this social ill requires a joint effort from all sections of society, rather than isolated interventions.

In his remarks, Lalrinpuii stressed the critical importance of maturity in decision-making, particularly regarding marriage. He argued that individuals must possess the emotional and mental maturity required to make such significant life choices, which are often compromised in cases of child marriage.

The minister further emphasized the need to protect and uphold the fundamental rights of children. By ensuring that children are not forced into early marriages, their right to education, health, and a safe childhood can be preserved. This stance aligns with broader national efforts to eliminate child marriage through legal and social frameworks.

Lalrinpuii’s statement underscores the government's commitment to addressing social issues through awareness and policy enforcement. The call for collective action suggests that community leaders, parents, and civil society organizations will play a pivotal role in changing mindsets and enforcing laws against child marriage in Mizoram.
