Meghalaya prepares for Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll, pending ECI schedule

The northeastern state of Meghalaya has entered the final stages of preparation for a Lok Sabha by-election in its capital, Shillong. State election officials are coordinating with local authorities to ensure polling infrastructure is ready once the Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the date.

Political parties across the region have begun mobilising their cadres and outlining campaign strategies, although candidate nominations remain pending. The bypoll, triggered by a vacancy in the Shillong constituency, is expected to draw significant attention given the seat's strategic importance in the state's parliamentary representation.

All eyes now turn to the ECI, which is expected to release the official schedule in the coming days. The timing of the announcement will dictate the final rollout of voter awareness drives, security arrangements, and logistical support required for a smooth electoral process.
