Manipur's Chief Minister has requested the central government to provide additional funds under the SASCI scheme to alleviate the state's mounting financial crisis.
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, has appealed to the Union Government for urgent financial assistance as the state grapples with a severe fiscal crunch.
Singh highlighted that the state’s debt has escalated to over ₹1,200 crore, and the deficit has widened due to rising expenditure on infrastructure and social welfare schemes.
He specifically requested additional allocations under the State and Union Territory (SASCI) scheme, citing that the current funds are insufficient to meet the state's obligations.
The request comes after the state’s finance department warned that the fiscal gap could lead to a default on payments to creditors if the Centre does not intervene.
