The Mahalakshmi temple at Manak Chowk in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, is being adorned with crore‑rupee notes and gold and silver jewelry for Diwali. Two to three thousand devotees have already donated cash for the decoration.

The Mahalakshmi temple situated at Manak Chowk in Ratlam is undergoing a lavish Diwali makeover, with walls and pillars draped in crore‑rupee notes and embellished with gold and silver jewelry. Temple authorities say that the decorations are part of a traditional celebration to welcome the goddess during the festival season.

So far, between two and three thousand devotees have contributed cash to fund the elaborate display. The donations are being collected on a voluntary basis, with devotees placing their money in designated boxes at the temple premises.

The use of money and precious metals in temple decor is a common practice in many parts of India, symbolising prosperity and devotion. The Mahalakshmi temple, a major pilgrimage site in Ratlam, has attracted a large crowd of worshippers this Diwali.

The decorated temple is expected to be open to the public from the start of the Diwali celebrations, allowing devotees to view the ornate setup and offer their prayers.
