The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta has opened an investigation into former TNCP joint director Sunita Singh, alleging that her assets are 2.5 times her declared income.
The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta has formally registered a case against Sunita Singh, who previously served as joint director of the Trinamool Congress (TNCP) in Bhopal. The complaint alleges that Singh's declared assets exceed her lawful income by a factor of two and a half, prompting a probe into possible illicit enrichment.
According to the filing, the discrepancy was identified during a routine audit of the politician's financial disclosures. The Lokayukta's office has ordered a detailed examination of her bank statements, property records, and any other sources of income to determine the origin of the excess wealth.
Sunita Singh has not yet commented publicly on the allegations. The investigation will proceed under the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Act, which empowers the body to pursue cases of corruption and asset disproportion among public officials and political figures.
If the probe finds evidence of wrongdoing, Singh could face penalties ranging from fines to disqualification from holding public office, as stipulated by state law.
