Former Himachal leader Jairam Thakur charged the Sukhu administration with taking credit for a three‑decade battle over BBMB power rights and urged the restoration of 15 units of free electricity.
Jairam Thakur, a senior BJP figure and former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, publicly accused the newly formed Congress government headed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of appropriating credit for a prolonged dispute over power allocation from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
Thakur said the dispute has spanned three decades and concerns the state's entitlement to a specific share of electricity generated by BBMB’s hydro‑electric projects. He contended that the Sukhu administration’s recent statements portray the government as having resolved the issue, whereas the fight, according to him, is ongoing.
Beyond the political criticism, Thakur demanded that the state's entitlement to fifteen units of free electricity, previously provided under a subsidy scheme, be reinstated immediately. He warned that any delay would affect households that rely on the concession.
The Sukhu government has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations, and officials from the BBMB have declined to comment on the status of the power‑share negotiations.
