The India Meteorological Department has issued a very heavy rain alert for Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar on October 30, urging residents to take precautionary measures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather bulletin on Monday indicating that very heavy rainfall is expected across the northeastern state of Sikkim, the eastern state of West Bengal and the eastern part of Bihar on October 30. The forecast is based on satellite observations and model simulations that show a deep low‑pressure system moving into the region, bringing intense convection and prolonged precipitation.

IMD officials warned that the heavy rain could trigger flash floods, landslides and road blockages, especially in hilly terrain and river basins. Local authorities have been advised to activate emergency response teams, clear drainage channels and keep rescue equipment on standby.

Residents in the affected districts are urged to stay updated through official alerts, avoid low‑lying areas, and refrain from traveling unless necessary. The department will continue to monitor the system and issue further advisories as the situation evolves.

The alert follows a pattern of above‑normal monsoon activity this year, with several states already experiencing localized flooding. Authorities in Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar have been instructed to coordinate with disaster management agencies to mitigate potential damage.

The IMD will provide hourly updates on its website and through mobile applications, ensuring that the public receives timely information ahead of the expected heavy downpour.
