The India Meteorological Department has raised red and orange warnings for Delhi‑NCR as a spell of heavy rain and thunderstorms is forecast to begin later today.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday upgraded weather warnings for the National Capital Region, issuing a red alert for Delhi and an orange alert for surrounding districts. The alerts come as a deep‑low pressure system moves eastward, bringing intense rainfall and frequent lightning.

Meteorologists predict that the heavy downpours will start in the late afternoon and continue through the night, with accumulations of 30‑50 mm expected in parts of Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad. Thunderstorms are likely to be accompanied by strong gusts, posing a risk of localized flooding and disruption to traffic.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid non‑essential travel, secure loose objects, and stay updated through official channels. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any water‑logging or power‑outage incidents that may arise as the weather system intensifies.
