A tragic incident occurred in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where an elderly couple lost their lives in a house fire. The blaze broke out in a residential property that also operated as a clothing shop. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Hathras Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha confirmed the deaths, stating that the couple was alone in the house when the incident took place. The SP indicated that the fire was likely triggered by an electrical short circuit, though a formal inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause.
The incident has drawn attention to the safety standards of mixed-use residential and commercial spaces in the region. Fire services responded to the scene, but the couple could not be rescued due to the intensity of the flames. The bodies were recovered and handed over to the families for funeral rites.
Police are examining the electrical wiring of the property to verify the short-circuit theory. No foul play has been reported at this stage, and the case is being treated as an accidental tragedy pending further forensic analysis.
