The Delhi High Court has asked the Central Board of Secondary Education to submit its response on a petition seeking permission to use basic calculators in Class 12 Accountancy exams and recommending an expert review for their use in Mathematics papers.

The Delhi High Court issued a formal notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) seeking a written reply on a petition that requests the allowance of basic calculators in the Class 12 Accountancy examination. The petition also urges the board to obtain an expert opinion before permitting calculators in the Class 12 Mathematics paper.

The court’s order does not grant permission; it merely asks the board to explain its stance and the regulatory framework governing the use of electronic aids in senior secondary assessments. CBSE is expected to file its response within the timeframe prescribed by the court.

Legal experts note that the matter could set a precedent for how technology is integrated into board examinations across India. A decision either way may influence future policy decisions on permissible devices in other subjects and grade levels.
