A BJP‑led gathering that featured independent members of the Bihar Legislative Council highlighted growing friction within the state’s NDA coalition.
Bihar witnessed a high‑profile political gathering where senior BJP leaders shared the stage with independent members of the Legislative Council (MLCs). The event, described by observers as a "saffron show," was intended to showcase the party’s outreach beyond its traditional cadre.
Analysts note that the inclusion of independent MLCs, who are not formally part of the BJP or its regional allies, signals a shift in the balance of power within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state. Their presence underscores the party’s effort to consolidate support while also exposing underlying disagreements with coalition partners over seat allocations and policy priorities.
Opposition parties and some NDA allies have publicly questioned the optics of the rally, suggesting that the BJP is attempting to sideline smaller coalition members. Political commentators argue that the episode could foreshadow a re‑negotiation of the alliance ahead of the next state elections, as the centre‑right bloc seeks to present a united front.
The episode adds to a series of recent moves that point to strain within the NDA, including divergent statements on development projects and differing stances on central schemes. While no formal split has been announced, the saffron rally with independent MLCs has brought the internal discord into sharper public focus.
