A youth from Aligarh was taken into custody in Gogawan with ten homemade pistols, worth about ₹1.5 lakh, after claiming to have purchased them from Signoor.
A 23‑year‑old resident of Aligarh was arrested by the Gogawan police on Tuesday after he was found carrying ten homemade pistols. The weapons were seized from his bag and are estimated to be worth approximately ₹1.5 lakh. The suspect told officers that he had bought the firearms from a shop in Signoor, a town in the same district.
Police officials said the seized pistols are of domestic manufacture and are illegal under the Arms Act. They have begun an investigation into a possible smuggling network that may have supplied the weapons to the suspect.
The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on illicit arms trafficking in the region. Authorities have warned that possession of such weapons without a license is a serious offence punishable by up to seven years in prison.
The suspect has been booked under the Arms Act and is being held in custody while the investigation continues.
