Archaeologists from the Archaeological Survey of India have uncovered a rare 1500‑year‑old statue of a female figure in the village of Nchanha, Panna district, Madhya Pradesh.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced that a 1500‑year‑old statue of a female figure was found during an excavation in Nchanha village, located in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh. The dig, part of a larger survey of the region’s ancient sites, uncovered the statue buried beneath layers of earth and sediment. The figure, believed to belong to the Gupta period, is notable for its intricate craftsmanship and the depiction of a woman in a stylised pose. Experts say the find adds valuable insight into the artistic traditions of the Gupta era and the role of women in that society. ASI officials plan to conduct further analysis and conservation work before the statue is displayed in a museum.
